Every week I join in with Living Arrows, a blog linky run by Donna at What the Redhead Said. The name Living Arrows comes from a poem by Kahlil Gibran; “You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth”, and each Monday I share a photo of M, and one of B, and a bit about what we’ve been up to the previous week.
This week hasn’t been quite as carefree as we expected. Despite the school term finishing on Tuesday, Matthew spent the rest of the week going into his new school to get his office and some things in order for September. I don’t blame him though; much better to get it done this side of the holidays, before he’s settled into summer holiday mode. I popped in for a couple of hours on Wednesday and Thursday to help. I do like the feeling before the start of a new school year. It holds so much hope and promise for the year ahead. I’m not sorry that I’m no longer teaching, as I love being at home with the girls, but I do enjoy living vicariously through Matthew as it’s definitely a case of once a teacher, always a teacher!
So our summer holiday properly got started on Saturday, which also happened to be our third wedding anniversary. We had a lovely family day out at the Worstead Festival, which is kind of a miniature version of the Norfolk Show. There were shire horses, birds of prey and a significant amount of farm machinery, as well as working dog displays and lots of summer-fair-type stalls. It was a great way to enjoy the sunshine as a family and is probably the most rural thing I’ve done since moving to Norfolk as a child. M loved it and has been talking all about the horses and owls, which were definitely highlights of the day for her!
B has been enjoying her first full week without the Pavlik harness, and has been teasing us by nearly rolling over almost every time she’s lying down! This week’s Living Arrows photo was taken on Thursday, when she was enjoying a bit of tummy time on our bed. M has been trying to help by demonstrating rolling all over the place, so I’m sure it won’t be too much longer until it happens!
The other lovely thing about this weekend has been the respite from the intense heat of last week! I was actually thrilled that it was overcast and showery yesterday. I’ve been finding the heat unbearable, especially at night. Of course the stress of the heat is exacerbated when you’ve got a newborn in a Snüzpod next to you! It’s been a relief to not have to worry about her being too hot for the first night in what feels like a long time.
This week’s Living Arrows photo of M was taken yesterday, when she had what is possibly her first real experience of an umbrella. Of course, it was a huge novelty, and she just wanted to hold it. I think we’re going to need to get her a child-sized one so that she can actually walk with something that isn’t bigger than her!
While I enjoyed the rain this weekend, I am looking forward to a bit of sunshine this week, provided it doesn’t get too hot again!
