Living Arrows 32/52

Last week was a busy one! On Tuesday, we went to the first of two special summer holiday Tiny Talk classes. It was lovely for hubby to be able to come along with us and experience the classes that I’ve been describing to him since January. He really enjoyed it and even exclaimed, “yes!” a couple of times when his favourite songs came up. Definitely young at heart, that one! It was quite weird though, as almost all of the adults attending the class were teachers, taking advantage of the summer holiday I guess. I actually knew one of them from my former life as senior management. It was very strange to be talking to the same person, on such a very different level! It definitely didn’t make me miss my old job though. I am a million times happier with my work-life balance, now!

I don’t know if I’ve mentioned it before, but recently I’ve been developing a bit of an obsession with the notion of paying off our mortgage early. Or at least, overpaying our current mortgage. As a result, on Wednesday we popped into Norwich to open a new joint account, so we can consolidate our finances and I can get a clear overview of what we’re earning and what we’re spending. We also earned ourselves a bonus £200 as hubby was able to recommend me as a friend, so we received £100 each. Bonus! I’ve also been looking at ways to save money, starting by switching my foundation and loose powder from Liz Earle to Boots No. 7, which has saved me 50%! I’m not really very knowledgeable about makeup, but I honestly couldn’t see a difference. So that’s a good start! I’m thinking about starting a monthly blog feature to let you know how much we’ve managed to overpay our mortgage by each month, to keep me accountable and motivated. Is this something you’d be interested to read about, do you think?

On the flip side to saving money, the new car seat we bought for Little M arrived this week. Obviously, she was more interested in the box that it came in, as you can see from the photograph that I’ve chosen for Living Arrows this week! I had been planning to turn it into something exciting for her to play with this weekend, but time has slipped away from me. Thank goodness it’s the holidays and I still have more time!

On Thursday I went into London with Little M and Sarah and Piglet from Boo, Roo and Tigger Too. We attended the launch of Fearne Cotton’s new children’s clothing collection for Boots Mini Club. It’s a really cool collection, just like the lady herself, and I’m looking forward to showing you a little of it here on the blog, soon. Little M decided that naps are for the weak on Thursday and only napped for a measly 40 minutes, the whole day! A bit of a difference to her usual combined nap time of 4-5 hours! We decided to take Friday as a rest day and recover with some lovely long naps.

The weekend was full of walks with friends and another trip into Norwich, as we had a soon-to-expire voucher for free hot drinks and cake in John Lewis. And who doesn’t love free cake?! They even have gluten free options (but they’re not labelled, so make sure that you ask at the counter!) so hubby and I made ourselves thoroughly sick by gorging on a piece of chocolate fudge cake, each. As you do!

Your saving money goals are so impressive! Little things can make such a huge difference. I really hope you stick to your goal, I think you will feel such a sense of accomplishment. How cool that you went to the Boots Mini Club launch? Amazing. And I can’t believe she naps for 4-5 hours a day??? My 16 month old is 2 hours absolute maximum! #LivingArrows

She used to sleep for around two hours at each nap, although I think she might be getting ready to drop one now. We’re experimenting today with a later morning nap in an attempt to drop one, and she’s just woken up after an hour and a half! Wish me luck for the rest of the day!

Wow, you had a busy week! I used to pay extra off our mortgage whenever we could but we’ve not managed it for a while with me not working at the moment – good luck with it! #LivingArrows

Thank you, I want to try to pay off at least £50 extra each month. Hopefully we’ll manage more than that, but every little helps!
