Meet the Parents – Advice for New Mummies and Daddies from Me and B Make Tea

Welcome back to Meet the Parents, my weekly blog series where a blogger and parent shares their advice for first-time and expectant parents. This week we welcome Emma, who blogs at Me and B Make Tea.

Tell me a bit about you, your blog and your family.

Me and B Make Tea started out as a fun way to document the highs and lows of parenting, and to showcase some of the fun food bits I made for my son. Me, B and Mr D live in the sunny seaside town of Weston-super-Mare. We like to get out and about at the weekends after a busy week of work, blog and nursery!

What one essential item would you insist on putting in your hospital bag (for you)?

One essential item for me would be maternity pads. You’ll need them – trust me!

Was there anything unexpected that happened during labour, that you think first-time mums should be prepared for?

I had a planned c-section. In terms of being prepared for the unexpected, it took them a while to insert the spinal. This stressed me a bit. Deep breathing really helped.

What would be your one essential product for a newborn that no new parent should live without?

I couldn’t have lived without the Medela Swing breast pump. I really struggled with breastfeeding and this really helped. Also muslin cloths. You can never have enough!

What’s the best piece of advice you were given before your first child was born?

Rest, sleep and enjoy your free time haha! I didn’t really take this advice on board and I really wish I had. Having a bubba was a massive shock to the system mentally and emotionally.

What’s the worst piece of advice you were given?

Sleep when baby sleeps. In theory this would be great but when baby slept, I wanted to get on and have a shower and eat!

What would be your top tip for a first time parent-to-be?

Try not to stress it. They grow so fast and before you know it, they WILL be sleeping longer than three hours at night.

What’s the hardest thing about being a new parent?

It’s not about me anymore. Before B came along, I only really had myself to worry about. I could come and go as I pleased and do what I wanted. It took me a while to adjust to it being the three of us.

What’s the best thing about being a new parent?

The best thing for me is knowing that I grew this little boy, who is now nearly four and is a whole little personality. At times it has been super hard but having him by my side, telling me he loves me and giving me a big hug is just the best feeling 🙂

Thank you, Emma. You can find Emma over on her blog, Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.
