Meet the Parents – Advice for New Mummies and Daddies from Raising the Rainbows

Welcome back to my guest series, where a different blogger each week shares a bit about themselves and their advice for new parents. This week sees the turn of Mandy from Raising the Rainbows.

Tell me a bit about you, your blog and your family.

I’m Mandy, In my late thirties and have been with Dave for 15 years,we aren’t married and have no plans to marry. We have 4 lovely children, 3 boys and 1 girl. Three of our children have autism, which makes life interesting.

What one essential item would you insist on putting in your hospital bag (for you)?

Definitely a book! Well for me anyway, I had very long inductions and was in the hospital for 3 days sat around waiting for something to happen.

Oh gosh, that must have been dull – a good book would be essential!

Was there anything unexpected that happened during labour, that you think first-time mums should be prepared for?

Just how long it can take! Don’t listen to the horror stories of 90 hour labours or the I gave birth in 5 minutes stories. Labour is different for us all, I have had four labours and each one was different.

What would be your one essential product for a newborn that no new parent should live without?

Definitely muslins! They are a great multi-use item and you can use them for all sorts.

What’s the best piece of advice you were given before your first child was born?

Do what you think is best for your baby! What works for one baby doesn’t work for others, so do what you think is best! Happy Mummy = Happy Baby

What’s the worst piece of advice you were given?

Put rusk/baby rice into the baby’s bottle to make them sleep!!

Eek!

What would be your top tip for a first time parent-to-be?

If it’s your first baby, definitely sleep when baby sleeps! When you have more than 1 child it isn’t an option, so enjoy it while you can.

This can be easier said than done!

What’s the hardest thing about being a new parent?

The life adjustment. It’s hard work, leaving the house just to go to the shop is a mission in itself.

What’s the best thing about being a new parent?

It’s a wonderful new adventure and you get to learn together. You have this lovely little bundle who needs you for everything. You get to experience lots of lovely firsts, cherish it.

I love watching the ‘firsts’! It’s incredible watching Little M grow and develop.

Thank you, Mandy! You can find Mandy over on her blog, Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.
