Pregnancy Diary Week 20

Well, what a week this has been! 21 weeks pregnant today and time to write my diary for week 20. First we had the 20 week scan on Tuesday, which was soooo exhausting (how can sitting around in a waiting room be so tiring?!). Then we revealed the gender of our baby in this little video, which I’ve been told is rather cute! I like it, but then I might be just ever such a teensy bit biased!

The baby has been kicking away more this week, which has been reassuring, but I’ve also had some other strange feelings which I suppose it just things stretching, moving position and generally getting squashed in there. On Friday I spent the whole day feeling like I couldn’t stand up straight because I had a stitch-type feeling high on the right side of my bump. Ironically once I realised this and actually stood up straight it felt better! I think I just need to stretch more.

On a related note, I missed yoga on Tuesday, completely by accident. I was gutted when I realised and felt so guilty that I’d missed it. I hated thinking that the empty mat was there and I’d somehow let the rest of the class down. In reality I doubt it really made any difference to them! The scan appointment just went on for so long, hubby wanted to pop to his parents afterwards, and by the time I remembered it was yoga that night the class had been over for an hour and a half! Never mind, hopefully they’ll all forgive me next week!

We also popped into John Lewis on Saturday to have a little preliminary browse at prams (I’ll write another post on this later in the week). It was nice as we’re now far enough into the pregnancy not to feel silly looking at these things and I know we’ll take so long deliberating that we need to start now really! It also made everything feel a little bit more real, if you know what I mean!

When did you start buying things for baby? Am I still jumping the gun a little bit by looking now, or did you have everything organised by this point in your pregnancy?

Your gender video is lovely Once our 20 week scan was out of the way we put our deposit down on a pram, started looking at cots and other things to buy. I’m 24 weeks on Wed and still haven’t bought a lot – a few baby grows, a £20 second hand cot, a tommee tippee prep machine and deposit on our pram. Hubby also bought baby’s first teddy bless him! I am still cautious over buying too much but feel like the time will fly and while offers and sales are on we have wanted to get some bits. How has yoga been? I’ve really wanted to try it but found it difficult when I went to a few classes pre-pregnancy!

We were too anxious to buy anything in the sales as we felt it was a bit too early on not having had the 20 week scan – except our Snuzpod; that seemed like too good a deal to pass up! We’ll probably start to buy more things in the next few weeks.

Yoga is good. It is quite hard but if I find it feeling a strain then I just stop, have a break, then start again when I’m ready. I’d not ever done yoga before either and I wrote a post about the first session if you fancy a gander! https://ponderingparenthood.com/pregnancy/pregnancy-yoga-newbie/ x

Thank you! What a lovely compliment x Yes it certainly feels like it’s starting to gain momentum now and I think it will keep feeling more and more real as we make more purchases! x

Oh gosh, I didn’t realise the 20 week scan was a long one. I’ve got mine in a few weeks, can’t wait to find out the gender. That’s good you’re going to actual classes, I’ve been doing pregnancy yoga off YouTube! We’ve kept all our stuff from when we had Tyler, but I remember starting to buy stuff at around 18 weeks. If stuff is in the sales, you gotta buy it there and then! xx

It isn’t for most people I don’t think! I just had to wait ages to see the consultant as I have another condition which could affect/be effected by the pregnancy. I think we’ll probably start buying more things once we have a chance to properly look round at half term xx

I really enjoyed looking at prams and I definitely don’t think it’s too early! We bought a pram around 21 weeks-ish and have bought most of the other big stuff between then and now (am 33 weeks on Mon). I found the time from the scan to now go super quickly, you’re going to blink and bub will be here! 😉 xx

Thanks! I think we’re going to have a good reccy in half term and make a decision then xx

So exciting seeing 20+ week updates now as I’ve just announced my pregnancy and it feels so far away! I’m still in the ‘can’t feel anything going on’ stage. Glad your scan went well, it’s something I get anxious for so hoping ours are ok. Thanks for linking up to #MarvMondays! Kaye xo
