Pregnancy Diary Week 33

This week of pregnancy things have continued to all get a bit more real! We had two more NCT classes (I’m going to write about the breastfeeding one separately, I think!) and have been buying more bits to go in the hospital bag(s!).

After being a bit unsure as to whether we’d wasted a significant amount of money on NCT classes, now that they’re done I’m really pleased that we invested in them. We’ve met such a great group of people; we all went out for lunch after the last class on Saturday and it was really fun. We’re trying to arrange another meet up before the babies arrive but all our diaries are starting to look rather busy so it’s proving something of a challenge!

As for the contents of the hospital bag, I’m still not sure we have everything we need (I’ll do a post on this when I’m feeling more confident that we have!). I do enjoy chatting to mums, though, about things they found useful in theirs. For example, I didn’t realise until this morning that you’re supposed to take vests AND sleep suits, to be worn by the baby simultaneously! Who knew?! I thought the baby would be too hot with two layers, but I suppose it makes sense that the little thing will be a bit chilly having been wrapped up at body temperature for the past nine months!

We also bought some cute little hats to go with the baby grows we’ve already purchased. Having bought quite a few girly bits, we’ve now started hedging our bets as we’ve still not had clear confirmation of the gender and have purchased some more gender neutral newborn stuff! We bought the cutest giraffe baby grow and hat from Jojo Maman Bebe as I had a gift voucher left over from Christmas – I do wish we could afford to buy everything from there though, it’s just gorgeous!

It is tough to know what to buy though, as everything you read seems to have conflicting advice about how much or what to include. Thank goodness we are lucky enough to only live five minutes away from the hospital, so hubby can pop home for anything we’ve forgotten!

I know, it feels like I’ve been waiting forever for hubby to be ready to start buying things! He’s getting into it now but I’m waiting for him to start moaning about how much we’re spending! x

I’ve never done the NCT classes but my friend did and she has a group of Mummy friends she still meets two years on and a couple are on their second babies at the same time! I do wish I’d had this as I have hardly any Mum friends and sadly my hypnobirthing class is only one other couple so definitely worth doing I reckon, glad you enjoyed them and happy 33 weeks! Thanks for linking up to #MarvMondays. Kaye xo

Yes definitely worth doing if only for the new friendships! The course has been useful too, though x

I’m with you on the conflicting advice! I would just say buy a few things you *KNOW* you’ll need, and hold off to see how things go so you don’t end up with a house full of stuff.
Vests and sleep suits? My newborn slept in a hospital tshirt and diaper, then wrapped in a blanket. I didn’t use his own clothes except for photos heh.
The newborn classes are so important, so definitely don’t regret those. I took all the classes my hospital offered because being first time, I knew nothing heh.

I’m so pleased we paid for NCT classes; we’ve met a fab bunch of people. We’re already arranging extra meet ups for before the babies arrive!

Aww how exciting! I’m starting to think about buying bits for my hospital bag now too. I dont know what it is, but I have this very compelling urge now to get it packed for some reason! So great that you’ve met some other lovely parents to be at NCT. Everyone that I know thats attended them have said they’ve been worthwhile in the end. Not long to go now, we’re almost on the home straight 🙂 Emily #MarvMondays

I wish I had the same urge! I’ve bought lots of the bits and pieces now, but still haven’t put it all together! I really must. I think in the back of my mind I’m waiting to see whether the baby is still breech as I can’t imagine any kind of labour for me until I know, if that makes any kind of sense?! x

I’m pleased you had a great experience with your NCT classes. Sadly, mine were not the best for making mummy friends, but I did make one wonderful friend which I am grateful for. It is hard to know what to pack in the hospital bag, I know I packed a lot of the wrong things the first time and was much better the second time. I have a post on my blog about what I packed, if it would help you 🙂 Not long to go, very exciting x

I’m sorry to hear you didn’t have the best NCT experience. What did you pack in your hospital bag the first time that you didn’t need? Any help much appreciated! x

I do not have kids yet but I can only imagine what it’s like to be shopping for bits as I have been going crazy for my nieces and nephews

It’s certainly difficult not to get carried away!

  7. April 26, 2016 / 2:52 pm

I’ve never done NCT classes, but I’ve heard a lot of mums mention how it has helped them a lot, especially like you mentioned, meet other new mums who later turned into their closest friends 🙂 I think you’re right in investing in them. x

As a general rule of thumb I have been led to believe that babies need one layer more than we do for the first few months of their life.

I hear you when it comes to JoJo Maman Bebe – I absolutely love their things. #MarvMondays

Thanks that’s a good way to remember how much they need to wear!

  9. April 26, 2016 / 5:58 pm

Oh how exciting – I loved this stage of pregnancy (both times). I’d just buy a few little pieces, everything we had was too big so I had to send my husband out to buy a load of sleep suits when he arrived!x

Oh gosh! We have bought quite a few first size from Next and a newborn size from JoJo; hopefully they’ll be ok! x

  10. April 26, 2016 / 10:31 pm

Ahh that’s so funny about the vests AND babygros – yes I remember thinking the same first time round! I packed drinks with a straw, like Ribena cartons, as they come in handy when you’re in labour, so you can have a quick sip between contractions (hubby has to hold the carton!). And Nutrigrain bars for after baby is born for quick snacks after all that hard work! xx

Thank you, that’s really helpful. I was planning to pack straws but hadn’t thought of pre-packed cartons xx

Aww what a lovely update, I had gone a bit mad by this point and bought lots and lots of thing! It’s such an exciting time and it’s so lovely that you have enjoyed your NCT classes

      April 27, 2016 / 7:50 pm

I still don’t feel like we’ve got that much really! We don’t seem to have that much time to shop in between all of the classes that we’re doing!

  12. April 27, 2016 / 4:55 pm

Exciting stuff. I loved my NCT group (the classes were run by a bit of a hippy woman – too much massage for my liking), but we still meet up now, although less so now they’re all at school

Haha there was very little massage involved on our course! Yes I think there’s potential for some good friendships.

I can’t imagine how exciting it is to buy stuff for a new arrival. Although I don’t have kids of my own yet. I bet the feeling is amazing. I’m glad you enjoy yourself and meet new people at NCT
