What to see in Calgary

Canada is a stunning country. It is full of big cities, remote villages and plenty of sights to see. One of the great places to visit in this wonderful country is Calgary. The city can offer shopping, lots of food, views and activities for all ages.

Spruce Meadows

Spruce meadows is a sorting facility whose name comes from the trees which surround it. It is home to some of Canada’s most prominent equine events. You can enjoy watching professional jockeys on horseback riding around the course and competing in races as well as other events. There is show jumping, cross country and general racing, and jockeys compete for national titles.

Calgary Zoo

If you love animals, then a trip to Calgary zoo is exactly what you need on your trip here. This zoo holds a whopping 1400 animals, and every single enclosure is representative of each animal’s natural habitat. You’ll be able to come up close with gorillas, tigers and loads of other stunning animals from all over the world. One of the most popular sites in the zoo is the creatures of the night/Australia exhibit, where visitors can see kangaroos and emus amongst other animals from down under. If you want to enjoy some of the animals native to Canada, you will be able to see moose, wolves and bears.

Take a break from the animals for a while if you like and enjoy a visit to the gardens housed within the zoo walls. You’ll be able to see plants from all over the world as well as an exhibit showing the prehistoric history in Canada.

Canada Olympic Park

The Winter Olympics were held here in 1988, and the Olympic Park is the perfect tribute to that time. This huge sporting complex os used throughout the year by the locals and athletes, and is the perfect place to learn how to ride on the slopes. Take skiing lessons, try your hand at bobsleighing or even the luge. It’s fun for everyone and a great way to get in some exercise on your trip.

Calgary Tower

Calgary tower was once the tallest building in the city, standing at 626 feet high. It was built in 1967 in order to celebrate the centennial of Canada, and it was used during the Winter Olympics to hold the flame. In this day and age you can use this tower as the perfect viewpoint over the entire city, taking in the views and taking loads of photos.

Stephen Avenue Walk

One of the most popular shopping venues in the city, Stephen avenue walk is full to the brim of high street chains and independent stores. You will be able to enjoy street performers, artists and ven festivals in this area of the city as you do some retail therapy.
